About This Artwork
“Carnage” is a visual explosion of kinetic energy. A bright, swirling vortex sits at the centre, radiating outward into sharp, blade-like spikes of gold, orange, and metallic silver. It captures the chaotic, vibrant energy of a city in motion, transforming a bustling night scene into a stunning abstract masterpiece.
The Artisan Process: From City to Abstract
These are not AI-generated images. This piece began as an original photograph of Newcastle at night, captured by Michael Paul Bennett.
Using Adobe Photoshop, he converted the image into a Smart Object and began a meticulous layering process. He applied the Mezzotint filter—which includes long strokes—alongside distortion techniques like Twirl to break the city lights apart and create these explosive shapes. Finally, he adjusted the colour balance of the layers and used Adobe Lightroom to deep-dive into the shadows, achieving that signature deep black background and vibrant colour pop.
