About This Artwork
“Heaven and Hell” is a visual representation of duality. The glowing, fluid shapes emerge from a deep black background, creating a stunning contrast that draws the eye directly to the centre. It is a modern, digital take on the ancient philosophy of opposing forces coming together.
The Artisan Process: Digital Layering & Light
These are not AI-generated images. Every piece in the Luminous Art Collection is a masterful digital composition created by Michael Paul Bennett.
The process begins with one of Michael’s own original photographs. Using Adobe Photoshop, he converts the image into a Smart Object and begins a meticulous layering process. He applies the Mezzotint filter—which includes long strokes—alongside various distortion techniques like Twirl to create a rich, textured base. Next, he adjusts the colour balance of these individual layers and changes their blending types. This creates the explosive, glowing depth that defines the Luminous series. Finally, Michael takes the artwork into Adobe Lightroom to deep-dive into the shadows, achieving that signature deep black background and vibrant colour pop.
